Hi Scott,

Yes, you can loop a track and it will go round as long as you like. However, if you record on another track, please be aware that the other track is also looping.

So, if you want a free length on the second track, your best option is to Copy the first track and use the Paste Multiple command to make lots of copies of it, effectively making a finite loop.

Regarding your questions about the Quantise tool, can I refer you to the Audio Tutorial on the QWS website about the tools: Go to qws.andrelouis.com, then choose Downloads, then Audio, and it's Tutorial 5.

The beat division in the Quantise dialog, by the way, is a beat division, not a bar division. So if you are using sixteenth notes (we call them semiquavers in the UK), there are four notes to a beat, so the value you really wanted is 4, not 16.

I hope this helps, but do get in touch if you have any further questions.

With best regards,

James.

Hi James.

So I could create my own arpeggio patterns, record them to whatever note
value I want to use, quantize it and then if I wasn't sure how long I wanted
it to play, could I loop that one track to play indefinitely while I
recorded other instruments on other tracks?

Also, I had a couple of questions about the value fields in the quantize
dialog.

I recorded a piano part and it had some 16th notes and when I quantized it
and chose 16 as the beat number, strict was at 100 and swing was at 0. when
I played it back, it sounded too perfect, like there was no human feel to
the playing so I'm assuming that the strict value needs to maybe be half or
do I need to change the swing value from 0 to 50?

Now, what I'd eventually like to do is maybe get into some VST synths,
nothing like Omnisphere because this computer probably couldn't handle it
and you have to jump through a bunch of hoops with hotspot clicker and third
party scripts to get it to work but I'm sure there are pretty simple VST's
out there that still have a lot of sounds.

If I can create loops that can play for a long time, I can play those tracks
while improvising over them for my live performances on the internet,
something that Andre and I were talking about a little at any rate.

I'm really excited to start exploring the possibilities of all this to
enhance what I already do which, according to my wife and some other people,
is really weird anyway. lol.

Scot

Hi Scott,

That's great you got QWS working. Well done for sorting out your computer.

With arpeggios, you have two options:

Either you can just play the notes - sequencers are good at playing notes,
and yes, you could use the Step Record function, or RealTime Record and
Quantise.

The other option, as you say, is to use the Arpeggiator on the FA8. I don't
personally own an FA8, so will only speak from my experience with other
Roland gear: yes, you can send MIDI clo ck to synchronise things, but you'll
also need to tell the synth to be in Slave, instead of Master mode. If you
do this, make sure to switch it back to master mode when you're not
sequencing - otherwise, without a clock, the arpeggios just might not move
at all!

Hope this helps.

With best regards,

James.

Hi there.

I got the program working after eliminating duplicate ports and removing a
bunch of entries from sound video and game controllers, stuff that I
didn't
even know what it was like microsoft sync clock and microsoft streaming
server. Sound video and game controlers had 17 items in it and now it has

4
and things seem to be working better. That's an area I never really
checked
on in all the years I've had this computer so that probably accounted for
a
lot of problems so thank you Andre for that document in the roland folder
about removing ports. How's that for a run-on sentence? lol.

one thing I'm wondering about is the following situation.

The roland fa08 has an arpagiator and I'm guessing that you can use step
recording in QWS to create arpageos. but I like playing these in
real-time,
it just feels more natural to my way of doing things. If you've got
arpagiator mode turned on in the hardware side of things and you play
chords
into QWS, I'm assuming that if you don't quantize anything that it should
play back correctly right? I'm guessing that the trick would be to get
the
metronome to time exactly in sync with the arpagiator on your keyboard but

I
guess midi clocking would take care of all that wouldn't it?

Thanks for the tips.

Scott
