I can also chime in with another problem report.  Using a MakeMaker that
came with an installed
PERL_ROOT of a test release of 5.8.1 (I think it was the [EMAIL PROTECTED] kit) I
saw several instances
of the following message whilst trying to run C<perl Makefile.PL> against
DBD-mysql-2.1027:

  Use of uninitialized value in -f at
/perl_root/lib/ExtUtils/Liblist/Kid.pm line 474.

The $ExtUtils::MakeMaker::VERSION in use was 6.03 hence this report does
not
pertain to the later release under discussion in this thread.
