Nevermind - I found a custom menu configuration set up to add this link to the menu bar. I removed it and now the link is gone as I wanted. I can get to the plugins only through the Manage screen.
FYI - I had an incorrect path to the fonts also - now the graphs are working. Do *not* install or try to use the "plugin manager". You can get info about the new plugin system in 1.2 in the admin guide, find numerous plugins on our wiki [1] and Github [2] and some in our bugtracker. This is not an exhaustive list. Finally, information on how to write your own plugins is in the developers guide.
