Hi Jean, It could very well be that, even though you think your whole document is ISO-8859-1, some bits of it are in UTF-8. ISO-8859-1 can deal with accented characters, so that is not the problem.
You might have to do a bit of researching how your GML is created (UTF-8 database?). If you run Linux or Cygwin, you could easily try if the above assumption is correct: convert it to ISO-8859-1 using 'iconv' and see what IE6 does with the output. Hope it helps you get started.
