o + o + o + o + o + o + o + o + o + o + o + o + o + o + o + o + o + o + o +

The date is written in a way that uses both ancient Greek systems of writing
numerals. The first three numerals (X, H, H) use a system known as the Attic
(or Herodianic) system. X is the first letter of the Greek word (*chilioi*)
for 1,000 and H is the first letter of the ancient Greek word for 100 (*
hecaton*). The last letter, E, stands for '5' in the second ancient system,
since it is the fifth letter of the Greek alphabet.
Hence, 1,00 + 100 +100 + 5 is the exact transcription.
Both systems are explained in T.L. Heath's *History of Greek Mathematics*,
vol. I, 30 - 32.
