With apologies to Anthony Mullan, I have no answers for him. I would like, however, to tag onto his query about Caribbean estate maps. Part of my family, including he who provided my surname, came to the USA around 1855 from St. Croix (Santa Cruz) in the then Danish West Indies. Plantation life was involved; the locus probably was near Christiansted. I would be grateful if someone could put me on to relevant detailed maps of St.Croix. Not strictly a cartographic question, but I also wonder if the Danish Government, typically well organized, makes its Census data available on-line. (I would be searching back to 1820 or so for "Montgomery" and some variant of "von Flierden" or "van Flierden.) Thank you for your attention and, in advance, for your any help you can give. I have worked with the John Byres' map of Dominica and with a detailed 8 sheet plan of the Rosalie Estate produced by a surveyor named Isaac Werden. I am wondering if anyone knows of other individual estate maps from the same period (1763 to ca. 1776) for plantations on Dominica or in one of the other so-called "Ceded Islands", "Neutral Islands" [Tobago, Grenada, St. Vincent, and Dominica). In addition, if any one has information about indivual surveyors working in these islands, this would also be greatly appreciated.
