Unfortunately I think that would cause more problems than it solves.
It would only take a couple of months at most before the spammers
found the new list. Don't forget there's an online searchable mailing
list archive, and that's much too useful to hide.
The only potentially viable solution I can think of is something similar
to the way Junkbuster filters ad graphics (see junkbusters.com).
Basically it consists of a personal proxy and a blackhole list of banned
servers and regular expression matches for stripping particular
graphics. Eg: if it looks like .../ads/nike_banner.gif kill it.
While this technology works, it does require very careful regex
construction so you don't inadvertantly strip wanted material and
needs to be continually maintained.
