Hello everyone, Here's another way to get hold of some oracle Products: We have become a member of the Oparcle Partner Program (OPP). Once you are a member of OPP, you can order several software tracks - which I did, and received about 20 or 30 CD last week. The software is worth about 20.000 US$ (includes 8i enterprise edition, 8i and 8i lite), whereas the membership comes in at what we thought is a reasonable price (It's less than 4.000 DM). Also included are a few Training CDs and five days worth of "real" training. You can find the details at http://alliance.oracle.com/ Details about what is included with Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition can be found at: http://www.oracle.com/support/products/o8i/nt/html/index.html On the weekend I have sussesfully installed Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition on our Network, with the aid of Andrew Dressels very helpful hints. My local MapInfo runs more or less pretty well with the data I have uploaded. Adding to what Andrew already said I want to mention that in order to set up the Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), you need to set up the Oracle Mangement Server (OMS). Details on how to do this can be found in the online documentation. Now here is the troubleshooting part: OMS, which is a NT service, won't start automatically, even if it set to start automatically in the services control panel. Instead you need to start OMS at a command prompt, which will start the service. However, the application that starts it will not return (it won't terminate), which means that you can't close the command prompt window - if you do, the service will stop.
