Let us make it even more precise. With 5.5 plain English, clip region still
does not hide text, be it regular text objects or labels, and it is not a
question of the position of the anchor point or of the centroid of the text
box; if any part of the text is inside the clip area, all the text appears.

The idea of making an opaque donut mask to fit own's needs is okay with
regular text but will not work with labels if there are still in the
cosmetic layer because this layer is topmost and, if the mask is drawn in
the cosmetic layer, there is no way to garantee that labels will be under
the mask (see the other thread going on about object drawing order in a map)

I take the opportunity to apologize for having inverted the order of the A's
formats. I just had to look at the page setup for my oh so common HP500 and
there it was A4 with the famous numbers 210 and 297. But at least the recipe
was good even though it started by warming the flour rather than the water!

Okay, here's a little more information about this problem. I remember now
that the problem only showed up in workspaces I had around for awhile. Try
re-building your workspace from scratch and see if that fixes it. I know I
got rid of the problem somehow.
