To do this, create 2 range thematic maps out of your table. The first will
need to be a range thematic map of varying sizes, the second a range
thematic map of varying colors.

You can control what the thematic settings are applying through the styles
window of the modify thematic map window. To do this, in the styles
portion of this window, click on the options button to get to the options
pop-up window. In the bottom right corner of this window you'll find an
apply panel. On one of the layers apply only size; in the other apply only
color (in neither apply all attributes). The symbol style will only be
changed in color and in size. The original symbol style of the layer is
what will be held for the map. If you want to change the symbol style
universally while still having the color and size changed, change the
symbol style of the original point layer for these thematic maps.

Note that you can also mix individual thematic maps with ranges by applying
only specific parts of the styles in much the same way. You can also apply
different symbol styles should you be using individual.

I believe you can only have 2 variables shaded this way, but if you needed
to you could mix suggestions and select portions of the table and give them
one symbol style and then give other portions other styles. That might get
you 3 variables, but I haven't tried it. This technique for doing 2 will
work though.

Also note that this shading of the 1 layer 2 times will only work in point
thematic maps. You'll need to add and shade extra layers if you are
working with regions for instance.

Good luck!

Subject: MI 2 Thematic Maps

Hello List,

I would like to be able to create a thematic map of different individual
symbols based on a column of numbers and at the same time create another
thematic map of different sized symbols based on another column of numbers.
i.e. I want to plot circles or crosses depending on one column and I want
to plot the circles/crosses big or small depending on another column. Is
it possible to do these two things together ? I can do them both
seperately but can't overlay the two maps as one obscures the other.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Elliot.
