You can do this in plain old MapInfo fairly easily.
1. Make sure that the table you are basing this thematic map on
is in the MapWindow only ONCE (this isn't strictly necessary but
reduces confusion while you're adding the two thematic layers).
2. Next, create the circles/crosses thematic layer, the way you
normally would.
3. Finally, start creating the thematic layer based on the data you
want to vary the symbols' size by, but stop when you get to step 3.
This MUST be a "ranges" thematic map.
3a. In the Step 3 dialog box, click on the "styles.." button in the upper
right area of the dialog box. You will get the Styles dialog.
3b. You will notice a button in the lower part of the Styles dialog that
is labeled either "Options >>" or "Options <<".
If it's labeled "Options >>", click on it and the dialog box will widen
showing more controls. If it's labeled "Options <<" the other controls
are already there.
3c. One of these other controls is a group of radio buttons titled "Apply".
Your choices are "All Attributes", "Color", and "Size". If you choose
"Size", the point-size attributes for this thematic layer will be applied
to the theme layer below it. The rest of the symbol attributes wil be
ignored.
You wil probably also want to choose "size" in the gorup of radio
buttons titled "Auto Spread" (whose choices are "Color", "Size",
and "None").
Hope this helps
