Listers,
Has anyone used USGS geological maps from this site
http://geology.usgs.gov/open-file/maps.html ?
The files have an .e00.gz extension, which apparently represents ArcInfo
export files compressed using a UNIX package called gzip. As per their
instructions, I downloaded gzip for DOS and attempted to decompress the
files, but the program won't recognize the .e00.gz files. Gzip notes in
their documentation that WinZip contains the gzip functionality, and can
open .gz files. However, Winzip wouldn't recognize the files either (I tried
with and without TAR File Smart CR/LF Conversion selected), and of course
all of the GIS people at USGS are off today.
I would be most grateful for any assistance, and promise to write a complete
and detailed summary.
Thanks,
Tim
