Dear all,
I feel lost trying to install the database drivers for MapInfo V6.0 and
Informix.
We are running UNIX boxes with Informix-Online 7.3x.
When installing MapInfo V6.0, several drivers are proposed. Which one should
we choose, what are the differences ?
With MI 5.0, we had the MapInfo Win32 Informix driver 3.10 (Intersolv),
working fine, thanks.
Let us look at the installation of MI 6.0... the DBMS support is poorly
documented.
Choose DBMS support
Two options are presented:
DBMS support (?? again ??)
Install IUS driver
Choose DBMS support: this looks like the ODBC setup we were familiar with;
but no Informix driver 7 is presented, only Informix 9.0; is this OK with 7
as well ? Mystery.
Choose Install IUS driver; this looks pretty much to the Informix Client SDK
and indeed, we are prompted for a licence key; our Client SDK key gets the
job done. But now we are presented with a list of options when choosing
custom setup; suspect that the relevant ones (???) are Informix Connect, CLI
RT, Intersolv 3.11 (and maybe ODBC DM 3.5 ???)
When Connect,RT and 3.11 installed, inspection of the Settings>ODBC driver
manager shows:
- INTERSOLV 3.11 32 BIT Informix 9 (from Intersolv... which BTW became
Merant several months ago)
- MapInfo Informix Driver 3.60 (from Merant)
So what ? What has to be installed, what not ? What works, what not ? Why so
many different drivers ? What are the
differences/limitations/recommendations ? I would be very interested to haar
about everyone's experience.
For MapInfo guys:
Same questions as above.
Can we get a clear description of this (which should be included in the
installation guide)?
Please be not mistaken: we love MI, but consider all the time wasted by the
many people facing the same -probably elementary - problems.
Final remark: how come that no new manual are issued for 6.0 ? We received a
5.5 manual (which mostly refers to 5.0 !) and a 6.0 supplement. Does this
version (supposed to be not a minor upgrade) not deserve proper manuals ?
