I don't know if this is what you are after, but there is a thematics tool
available which makes a whole new file of your thematics. You do need to
re-generate it each time you add data to your file, but it saves the
thematic symbols to a new and completely separate, selectable, table, and
the template can be saved for future use. What's more, it allows you to map
up to 4 attributes thematically at once, for any object. More information

It's called Display tools and has a couple of other tools in it as well as
thematics. Maybe this is what you are looking for?
