Harold: You can have your Layout window selected, and do a "save window as" using .WMF format. Then, in MSWord, "insert" the file exported out of MapInfo. Once in Word, you can Crop most of the excess white-space, size the graphic and place it where you want on the page.
Be warned: things are not WYSIWYG. Text placement, size and font can change. Colors, shadings and fill patterns can change. Line styles can change. Maybe other things, too. It's an iterative process of looking at the map as printed out of MSWord and modifying your map and layout in MapInfo until the printout looks right no matter what you see in MapInfo. All that said, this is the best way I've found of including my maps digitally with text, charts and other graphics, forming one MSWord document of a manageable size. The map in .WMF format is embedded and a permanent part of the MSWord document. Easier to print, or send to another PC. If something changes in the map, you need to export a new .WMF out of MapInfo and embed that one in the MSWord document.
