Hello, everyone. Here's my situation: We are an authorized MapInfo reseller and want to put a complex app written in MapBasic online. I've searched extensively on the archives of this list for how this can and should be done. There looks to me to be three possibilities-- 1. Do everything from scratch using MapX or MapJ (or MapXtreme or Maptreme Java)? 2. Integrate the existing MapBasic app with VB or Java? 3. Drive the app over a web connection?
Now, some questions: I assume that licensing (even though we are a reseller) prohibits #3. With #1, we are leaning to the idea that MapXtreme will be to expensive. So, any thoughts on what MapXtreme gives you that MapX does not? I am mainly a Java developer, so I am fairly new to the Microsoft world. I know that MapX is an "ActiveX component". I had thought that MapX was mainly for desktop development? With #2, is it possible to integrate the app with Java? What is involved with "integrating the app with VB"? As a related question (I realize that not many of you may have opinions on this), what are the advantages and disadvantages of using Microsoft vs Java in this case? Does MapX==MapJ? >From what I've seen so far, this mailing list seems great! A one or two sentence >technical description of how you might attack the problem would be awesome! I would really appreciate any thoughts on these topics.
