Hi Steve >Hello, everyone. Here's my situation: We are an authorized >MapInfo reseller and want to put a complex app written >in MapBasic online. I've searched extensively on the archives >of this list for how this can and should be done. There looks to me to be >three possibilities--
>1. Do everything from scratch using MapX or MapJ (or MapXtreme or Maptreme Java)? Basically MapXtreme NT / MapXtreme Java are web-versions based on MapX and MapJ. MapX and MapJ itself cannot be used for developing web-apps (licensing issues). Depending on how complex your app is (is it REGIS ? - we developed something for real estate using MapXtreme if you are interested), it might be a major task or even impossible to port it to MapXtreme (MapX does not have all the capabilities MapInfo and MapBasic have). >2. Integrate the existing MapBasic app with VB or Java? You could use Java and, as already suggested, i.e. MapServer, which is open source and therefore not as expensive as MapXtreme ;-) ... see i.e. www.mapserver.ch or www.mapsonlinux.ch. Again, Depending on how complex your app is, it might be a major task or even impossible to port it to MapServer. >3. Drive the app over a web connection? Such as a terminal server (???). As you said, there is a licensing problem, except you have a limited number of named users which have a MapInfo License each. best regards flavio ******** 10 Years TYDAC Event - Review see www.tydac.ch ********* xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ATTENTION: New Address xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ----------------------------------------------------------------- ############ Mit freundlichen Gruessen / Kind Regards ############ Flavio Hendry- mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ############ TYDAC AG - http://www.tydac.ch #### #### Geographic Information Solutions #### #### Luternauweg 12 -- CH-3006 Bern ############ Tel +41 (0)31 368 0180 - Fax +41 (0)31 368 1860 ----------------------------------------------------------------- MAPINFO Strategic Partner - PCI Reseller - FME Distributor ESRI ArcGIS Solution Provider ----------------------------------------------------------------- _______________________________________________________________________ List hosting provided by Directions Magazine | www.directionsmag.com | To unsubscribe, send e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put "unsubscribe MapInfo-L" in the message body.
