Hi All, and Bob

While this seems as a good idea, I'd like to bring your attention to an
important point of consideration.
I assume that by 'optimizing' you mean 'shrink the bounds of a tab to
increase accuracy'.
Well, let's imagine that you have a set of tabs, all from the same area but
containing different entities, for instance roads, railroads, lakes,
populated areas etc...
Then it is likely that the geographical coverage will differ considerably,
and as a result, a bounds optimization will create as many sets of bounds
parameters as there are tables.

Precisely this was the case when I got a set of set of tabs the other day
that were exports from an AutoCAD system.
I wanted to combine them to make fewer tables. Being dumb CAD data they had
no attributes, only a rowID. But I could not understand why they did not
appear on the map, even if the number of rows had increased.

Solution: The table I picked as base to add the others to had so small
bounds that only some objects would fit within, and the others lost their
graphic component.

Bottom line: While it's a good idea to optimize, don't forget to harmonize
as well.

Cheers, Mats.E

Amne: MI-L MI - Optimize Bounds

Greetings All:

Has anyone developed an MBX or whatever that can optimize the bounds
of a batch of .TAB files "automatically"?? .
