Hi Andre,

Our MapInfo clientele tend to enjoy working with our photography in .ecw
format. They can pull up an entire market in one seamless image without
having to "cut" an image for a specific area, zoom in to the maximum
resolution on the fly, and MapInfo redraws much faster while panning/zooming
with .ecw, than say a GeoTiff (which can become very large in size.) I
don't mean to plug our product here, but our software also allows users to
export GeoTiffs from the photography for prints (which is a less memory
intensive way to plot large areas than printing from .ecw.)

I hope this helps you,

Ryan Morgan

Subject: MI-L Orthophoto Format

Hello everyone,

We are soon to acquire new orthophotos. What format works best in MapInfo?
We also use Geomedia Pro in our organization and it had been suggested that
we go with GeoTiff because hard drive space is cheap, although they suggest
a compressed format if the orthos are to be used over a network system.

Any Suggestions?

Andre Lederer
