I agree that ECW is a very good format and allows for fast loading in MapInfo Pro. MapInfo Pro can read ECW files so you don't need to buy a plug-in. There is also a free ECW compressor you can download from www.ermapper.com that allows you to compress images, e.g. TIFF files, that are 500MB or less into an ECW format. We provide orthophotos in ECW format to clients here in BC, along with MrSID or TIFF format. ECW and MrSID are becoming more popular with end-users.

They can pull up an entire market in one seamless image without having to "cut" an image for a specific area, zoom in to the maximum resolution on the fly, and MapInfo redraws much faster while panning/zooming with .ecw, than say a GeoTiff (which can become very large in size.) I don't mean to plug our product here, but our software also allows users to export GeoTiffs from the photography for prints (which is a less memory intensive way to plot large areas than printing from .ecw.) I hope this helps you, Ryan Morgan Aerials Express www.AerialsExpress.com -----Original Message----- From: Lederer, Andre [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, December 03, 2002 1:17 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: MI-L Orthophoto Format Hello everyone, We are soon to acquire new orthophotos. What format works best in MapInfo? We also use Geomedia Pro in our organization and it had been suggested that we go with GeoTiff because hard drive space is cheap, although they suggest a compressed format if the orthos are to be used over a network system. Any Suggestions?
