Hi,
MapInfo doesn't move and scale an image; it moves your vector data to fit
the control points.
Funny enough the MapInfo Reference used to state that MapInfo was not
suitable for displaying unrectified images, like aerial photography. After
version 5 or so that warning was removed. Perhaps the software has changed?
(I think not...)
Do a search of the MI-L archives for image rectification; there have been
many requests like yours in the last few years. You will find plenty of
assistance there.
Cheers

Subject: MI-L Image registration
Dear list,
I'm looking for an add-on program to rectify image into
mapinfo?
It seem to me that register command provided with Mapinfo
only move and scale image but not really do a rectification.
I have tried to use a demo version of SmartImage, but the
program always generate error and quit after few seconds. Anyone have
experience with it.
