Joe: Sorry, I was out of the office on Friday.

The recent bout I had figuring out some problems with our very
specialized Michigan GeoRef projection probably applies to you. Part of
my problem was the data in the western end of Michigan was being
"squished " into a vertical line. Sound familiar?? Most of it isn't
relevant, but if you want the blow by blow, check the archives using
MichGeoRef as a keyword.

All TAB files have bounds, either from Bounds statements in the
Projection Info of each TAB file, or by default (which are usually
huge). I'm guessing MapInfo is applying inappropriate bounds to your
files.

Two things that may be of use to you:

1) download a MBX called "CoordSys Bounds Manager". It allows you to
directly look at, not only the bounds (and allows you to draw the
bounds), but the Projection Info in any TAB file. And has some
editing/modifying tools.

2) Export the problem TAB file as a MIF. Open it in a word processor,
MSWord works quite well with this kind of TXT file. You'll probably find
the Projection info is not exactly what you expected, or not. Not to
worry. MapInfo using projection algorithms that puts different
projections into "groups" that, on a practical level, map things to the
same positions, then, inserts into the TAB whichever of that "group's"
projection info that is most convenient for MapInfo to grab and use from
their long, extensive list of projections.

To solve your problem: while looking at the MIF in the wordprocessor
replace ALL the projection info with your Idaho projection info, AND add
Bounds that are appropriate for Idaho. Then Save, and re-import it to
MapInfo. You may have to experiment a bit to get the bounds part of the
statement right.

This may very well work for you, assuming there aren't other problems.
I'm no expert on this but I'll share whatever of my recent, frustrating
and time-consuming experience is relevant to you. Feel free to contact
me if you'd like more detail.

...good luck ....Bob
