Spatial Insights sells a great tool that does just this. I use it on every
map and it's very user friendly.

Subject: MI-L Tool for Labeling Interstates and Hwys?

Sorry to bother everyone with another newbie question, but is there a
standard or even custom tool in MapInfo for labeling Interstates and
Highways with the appropriate attributes and symbology? For example, in
ArcView (where I've spent the past 9 years) there is a pulldown tool
that
looks like an Interstate symbol....when you click on a line segment, it
goes
into the attributes, finds the Interstate number, then labels the line
with
the Interstate symbol and the correct number, such as "10" or "59". It
does
the same for non-Interstate highways with a similar pulldown tool.
