i think you have to use a command line in the mapbasic window or edit your
workspace.

Example:

open table "C:\temp\aaa.tab" as bbb

Subject: MI-L Is it possible to "Alias" a Layer Name

When I add a new TAB file into my mapper, does it HAVE to keep its filename
(such as "AAA") or is there a way for me to open it with an "alias" name for
the layer (such as "BBB")?

Thanks in advance.
