This isn't as easy as it should be - MapInfo and others access Oracle
natively but ESRI software uses their SDE middleware, with its own indexes,
to store spatial data in Oracle. So a user of MapInfo product might be able
to VIEW the data being maintained by an ESRI user but can't edit it. You
also have to reapply all the styles yourself as I believe there is no means
of passing them between the packages via Oracle. There are unsympathetic
souls who have suggested this is entirely deliberate.

The situation is simpler with other Oracle client GIS software (e.g.
Laserscan, Autodesk and the others who have signed up for this new Oracle
interoperability initiative). Be interesting to see what comes of this - I
believe none of them turned up to the big GIS shows this year as a means of
thumbing their noses at ESRI (who run them now) ;-)

Anyone got any thoughts on that?

I might be wrong - I never get to the shows myself because I now live in the
distant North where we cling onto a crofting existence on a harsh rocky
shore, subsisting on rusty girders and brown ale.

Hi Michel

It should be possible using Oracle Spatial or Locator. You can access
the data from MapInfo and from ArcGIS (how to do it with ArcGIS you
find it in the install dir of ArcGIS under Doumentation,
installArcGIS.html, Topic "Connecting to a database without
ArcSDE", "Using Oracle Spatial layers with direct connect".

best regards
flavio
