You have to use the "any" type query to get genuine object -sad but true.
Like this:
Select Asset_ID, obj from MyTable where Asset_ID = any (select MyOtherTable.Asset_ID from MyOtherTAble)

I can't seem to find a way to select the object from the corresponding
asset_id and insert it into the new table. This means i can't hit find
selection to go to the selected asset!

Is it possible to change from SELECT *
                                             FROM VALVES
To SELECT ASSET_ID
    FROM VALVES

and repeat this and then append the four results tables together,

would

this mean there would just be one field in the results table so they
could append?

Yes.

It goes like this:

SELECT ASSET_ID FROM VALVES where asset_id=somevalue into tmp1
commit table tmp1 as "newtable"
open table "newtable"
SELECT ASSET_ID FROM HYDRANTS where asset_id=somevalue into tmp1
insert into newtable select * from tmp1
SELECT ASSET_ID FROM METERS where asset_id=somevalue into tmp1
insert into newtable select * from tmp1
SELECT ASSET_ID FROM PRV where asset_id=somevalue into tmp1
insert into newtable select * from tmp1

Kind regards
