Yes, as expected. The TIFF *could* be much smaller (like PNG format), 
but MI saves it uncompressed, producing such huge files. For my 
purposes I never had much success with WMF, as it seems to "forget" 
several parts of a drawing, f.e. raster bitmaps.

Thanks for the tip. I've been looking for an alternative pdf maker 
already, as Acrobat 4 can be a pain in the ass sometimes - especially 
with some raster images and with transparent patterns. So I'll give 
PDF995 a try.

Meanwhile you can replace GIF with PNG in almost all cases. All 
web browsers and graphic tools support PNG and other than GIF, PNG is 
free (no licenses for users or programmers), supports 32 bit colors 
(GIF only 256 colors) and uses a better packing algorithm.

If you need to convert image formats I always recommend IrfanView. A 
TIFF to anything conversion should be no problem with this tool, even 
big files should work without problems.
