There's obviously support for "a form of MapBasic" within the spatial
language extensions used by MapXtreme 2004 (.NET) and I think you can see
how the "transitional arrangements" will be made.
My guess (no info from MI or others) is that the 7.5 MB interpreter will be
"frozen" and used for a while, so that MBX will work. Obviously that's a
awkward thing to have to do - from the MapInfo Corp developers' point of
view. I would much prefer to just dump MapBasic in one clean act. 

I have asked the question about MapInfo Pro .NET functionality at the
MapXtreme 2004 discussion forum, but it gets a plea of ignorance.

MapInfo Pro .NET has been "just around the corner" for quite some time now.
Will there be a public/closed beta available or any other kind of more
detailed information? What is the currently planned release date?
