John,

MapMarker seems to be working well for me as a standalone--I use the
resultant files in both ArcView and MapInfo. One thing with MapMarker
though is that you need to provide your own display streets--they often sell
MapMarker bundled with StreetPro Display. If you already have that basefile
then this may be the product for you.

Another thing I saw out there recently was GDTs Matchmaker(r) SDK
Professional. Haven't used it though and I think it's expensive.

>From the GDT webpage

"Description
The Matchmaker(r) SDK Professional is a set of development tools using the
GDT Address Coding Guide (ACG). The ACG is accessed through an Application
Programming Interface (API), allowing users to build applications to geocode
to the street level. The geocoding process attaches census as well as
coordinate information to address files, allowing users to derive valuable
information from address files.

Supported Platforms and Programming Languages:The SDK is callable from any
32-bit Windows development environment including Visual C++ and Visual Basic
and operates on Win95, Win98, Win2000, WinNT, and Windows XP platforms."

I wanted to see if anyone could recommend to me a good stand alone geocoding
application or geocode development library.
