Hello, Have a look at Manifold (http://www.manifold.net and http://www.manifold.net/news/news_set.html) - Version 6.5 has just come out.
This is actually cheap (USD245 to USD495, depending on whether you want functions for routing, surface analysis or access to enterprise databases) and doesn't have a 'special' exchange rate of USD1 = GBP1 for the UK like with a lot of consumer goods... So currently it's GBP140 to GBP280. Bizarrely, it seems to have more features than MapInfo or ArcView (such as a Map Server), certainly for the price... It's gaining support at our company at the moment...
