Hi Laure,

Thanks for your tips, but I've tried waiting (up to 10 minutes) and also going 
to Options > Preferences and turning off the option to "Restore Printer 
Information from Workspaces". My printer types and settings have not been 
touched for months.

All to no avail!

Does anyone else have ideas? I loathe the idea of spending two days to reformat 
the drive, re-install the operating system, MapInfo, etc.

  I have had the same problem several times. It could be a change of printer, 
or printer settings,  as  that information is embeded in workspaces. If it has 
to look for another or a new  printer, it can take ages to open. 

  The only thing you can do is either wait,  change the printer in MI and 
re-save the workspace or open the workspace in Word and change the printer path 
and name at the end of the document...

  I went to open a workspace today. The tables open up OK and then the Layout
  Window starts to open, but then the system "hangs".

  Note that I ran the Repair option from the MapInfo CD, but it had no effect.

  I then did a complete uninstall and then re-install of MapInfo, with still
  the same results.

  Does anyone have any ideas of what I could check to fix this problem?
