It seems eons ago we talked about the arrival of MI's maintenace deals
where you gave them a wedge of cash and for a guaranteed period they
ensured the latest version of the product was in use at the contract site.
At the time this raised a great deal of scepticism from users. I am now
reviewing how worth while it has been for my employers.
It was my belief that by taking out a maintenance contract then apart from
elegibility to straight upgrades, we would automatically recieve
intermediate bug fixes. Of the later despite the spectacular release of an
upgrade before the official release of v5 in the UK we have seen none of
the bug-fix releases and have had to download them. Aside from the recent
one, which I have not yet seen, the last upgrade was decidedly released as
a stop-gap measure.
I have now recieved a reminder from our MI Partner that the renewal of the
contract is due. Before I shell out further I would welcome any views as to
what we should expect from MI from this scheme, and if minor web released
maintenances are not to be issued to contract holders how I should explain
this when trying to secure scarce funds to meet the cost of this agreement,
which hardly automates the previous process resulting in continued staff
time imput from our side to ensure we keep up on releases
