I think the bulk of your performance increase has come from improved processor speed,
perhaps
improved disk transfer performance and the alleviation of a possible memory
bottleneck. The
graphics card alone will make very little difference. Most of the modern whizz-bang
graphics
adapters are improving on 3D performance and adding more and more memory. 2D
performance
has improved but hasn't jumped as much. Drawing 100K points is easy for the graphics
card..
MapInfo (using processor/disk/memory resources) still has the lions share of the
processing work.
My personal three key resources for MI performance: 1) Disk 2) Processor and 3)
Memory. When
optimising these three, a new PC system package will normally include a
more-than-adequate
graphics card.
