We have been looking for routing software for some time now but have yet to
find a package that will fill our requirements as outlined below.
We have looked at RouteView and Isoroute, neither one is suitable.
We need the ability to visualize existing multiple routes showing the
shortest routes between points using the Canadian Road Network and
calculating the distance and time based on our constraints, i.e. time spent
at the farm, availability of pickup, various driving speeds, type and
capacity of the truck. This will include the volume of milk picked up at
each farm and the total load.
We need the ability to move "pickups" between routes and see the immediate
effect on time, distance and truck utilization.
We may need the ability to place constraints on certain highways.
We need the software to create new, multiple routes and consideration must
be given to the fact that multiple vehicle types with different capacities
are used.
We have the following information available:
Locations of 7,000 farms, 75 transporters and 100 processing plants
Truck file with type, number of axles and tank capacity
The ability to create a unique "route" table showing
Start of load
Pickup sequence
Volume of each pickup
Destination
Since we are now using Psion Workabouts for our collection data we also have
other information available including times.
