There is still one other source for quality street files besides GDT. Have a
look at MapData. The main product is the US Digital Atlas which includes
streets, boundary files and landmarks and map loading software.
The next version of the Digital Atlas will be released in January and will
contain the latest TIGER 97 files. This is a major upgrade in quality from
previous TIGER releases. In fact, results from recent geocoding tests of
TIGER 97 provided an impressive 82% match score. TIGER 97 virtually
eliminates the need to pay thousands more for Dynamap 2000.
Detailed information on the Digital Atlas as well as TIGER 97 goecoding
results and methodology can be found at www.mapdata.net.

Hello List,
First----Happy Holidays to all of you!!
Next----I am hoping that someone out there can help me.
We have been using StreetNetwork w/EAL from BLR. The last time I talked
with a salesperson from BLR was in July 1998 concerning StreetNetwork 7.4
w/EAL.
I saw (and saved) a MapInfo list posting from Sept 1, 1998 that discussed
the acquisition of BLR and Wessex by GDT. As predicted in the posting by
Jeff Rogers, "If you are a current Wessex customer you can expect to be
contacted by GDT about the exciting opportunities arising from GDT's recent
acquisition of your current data provider. Next you will be told that GDT
will be providing updates to your current data for reasonable prices." Well
as a BLR customer---that is exactly what happened. At the time, the Sales
Rep said they could provide the data at the pricing we had discussed in
July.
Now the powers that be are letting go of the purse strings here for some
quick end-of-year purchases. I just spoke with a Sales Rep and he explained
to me that StreetNetwork 7.5 w/EAL is the latest version, but it will not be
supported starting in January.
He said that DynaMap 1000 or DynaMap 2000 were the replacement products
depending on my need to geo-code my data. The quoted price was "shocking"
to say the least. 7 times the StreetNetwork price!! Well that is not going
to fly!!
Is DynaMap more accurate and complete than StreetNetwork?
What other sources are available for this type of data? Any and all help
would be appreciated.
I know there are a couple of list members out there who are using MapInfo
for newspaper applications. I would be especially interested in hearing
what you are using for your applications----in particular if it deals with
the distribution side or database marketing.
Thanks,
