If you purchase a MrSid compressor, you can compress TIFFs, GeoTIFFS, DOQs and
some others into Sid format. Personally I feed it TIFFs (24bit colour)...
JPEGs etc are not recognised by the compressor, so you will have to convert
them first...
In the UK, the full MrSid suite costs 5000 which is a tidy sum, but it is
worth it. We have an aerial survey of our county, numbering some 900 photos,
which uncompressed would take up over 150Gb - With Sid we aim to get it down
to maybe 2 dozen CD's or onto a modest server...We'll save over 5k on the
cost of the server alone....And that's only the start!
Although, it is early days yet, our first impressions are very favourable...
Trial software is available from LizardTech, or if you are in the UK contact
The GeoInformation Group (01223) 425 325.

This is good news. Now... do I need to convert my image files (jpegs,
bitmaps, etc.) to MrSid raster files - if so what do I need to do that?
