I've managed the same thing by:

Buffer the line
Select the buffer & go to node edit
Copy the section of the buffer region required (usually to a spare layer - I often use the cosmetic layer for this)
You may need to do this in 2 bites if the start/end node of the region falls in the portion you want
Copy the original polyline to the spare layer
Hide the original layer
Extent one of the two (or 3) polylines to meet the other at each end
Select all lines & combine
Convert to a region
Show the original layer
Delete the original buffer
Cut & paste new buffer back to the original layer

The method is a bit slow & cludgy but it does the trick

I'm open to suggestions for improvement because I seem to be doing this a lot

Cheers

Dawn Hendrick <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> asked
Does anyone know of a tool to buffer one side only of a polyline?
I have searched the Mail Archives and get an error message when I try to access the testdrive.mapinfo.com site tonight.
The MapLogix downloadable file (on the MapInfo-L FTP site) mentions splitting polygons using a line - has anyone used this option?
Thanks in advance,
