Have I got a deal for you!!!
The company I work for, Compudigm, has just released a product called
"CompuWarp" which takes a MapInfo-registered image and warps it so that it
fits the vector data. It is designed to fix exactly the problem you have
noticed, that is that MI warps the (correct) vector data to fit the
(distorted) raster image, which is a pretty silly way to do it really. It's
fast, easy to use, and it costs only a small fraction of what full
rectification costs (for more than 95% of the accuracy).
For more information check out http://www.compudigm.com/CompuWarp.html

All well & good - the photo overlays nicely on the map. However,
zooming out, I notice that my map has
been rotated slightly to suit the photo, instead of the photo being
rotated to suit the map! Is this a problem
that can be overcome? I know my map is correct, so I don't want it
rotated......
