Well, it took me a long time to jump on to the intranet mapping bandwagon.
I was fine with saving windows as gifs/jpegs and have MBX's written to wrap
all the HTML around them, even with legends built on-the-fly.

But I've finally seen the light and just purchased MapXsite. The kicker was
probably when MapInfo finally agreed to make ProViewer freely available. I
tried installing PV on some staff computers for them to pull this HUGE
workspace up. It took almost 2 minutes to see the map, and quite a while to
pan or zoom (this is street-level detail of entire Florida, zoom layered,
of course). Anyway, the performance to the user and the fact it was choking
the server and LAN bandwidth made me a believer.

I need something server-side that will return a ~40k jpeg image into a www
browser (which eliminates the need to go around installing and configuring
ProViewer many times over). For $5,000 it is a bargain. And it looked like
it was fairly easy to get applications up and running, from what I saw at
MapWorld a couple weeks back. Steve Lombardi was writing apps on-the-fly
from his laptop. I'll let you know my progress, but the final application
will not be something for the public so don't expect a URL!
