Mitch,

What window size and paper size are you using? I use MapInfo on a 19inch 
monitor at 1250 X 1074 and a full-screen window fills up an A4 sheet in 
landscape fairly well. It sounds as if you are using a large paper size and 
small window. It is the window size which determines the image size on the 
layout, not the zoom - that simply changes the area contained within the 
window.
