Hi Roland,

Yes, like Lucas noted, SVG layering is handled by Cairo, so look to  
Cairo sources/tickets/bugs for insights on progress to improve it.

I'd love to hear what you find because I have noticed this problem as  
well.

You might consider trying the PS or PDF output from Cairo, which may  
handle layering and letter grouping better.

What application are you opening in output in? Inkscape?
