I wasn't so much referring to technically possible, but "socially
acceptable". I.e would the OSM sysadmins accept such a patch into
openstreetmap.org. I suspect if done well, it would be possible. So the
next question would be what exactly should it look like?

It could be its own page, such as http://www.openstreetmap.org/wikipedia?lat=0&lon=0&zoom=7 which could then lead to http://www.openstreetmap.org/edit?lat=0&lon=0&zoom=7

That would probably not disrupt too much the cleanliness of OSM codebase.
