Maptitude - http://research.umbc.edu/~roswell/maptitude.html

Most of the postings to the list come form people in the US and Canada. A
general idea underlies their accpeetance of Maptitude: economy (in terms of
both money and leaining curve). Imagine how much more important this factors
are when trying to intoduce and keep running a GIS service in a less developed
countries.

I came across Maptitude in 1995, and since then I have almost stopped working
with other GIS programs. Maptitude has allowed me to provide low cost solutions
and rapid implementation where other GIS would had required 5 figure budgets.
Despite this advantage I have been unable, in a number of ocassions, to push
Maptitude in some projects, just because the people in charge would favour
packages with a larger user base, and with a better known brand. This is
certainly an obstacle that GIS consultants try to avoid resorting to things like
Arc-Info in their projects.

Anyhow, I look forward to the time Caliper start a more agressive marketing
program. Such a program would certainly make my life and my business hunting,
easier.

Cheers,

Armando Scalise
