Viktor,

However, I can't absolve caliper completely because the problem doesn't exist using ArcGIS 9.0 or MapInfo 7.0 on the same system conditions.

Yes  that  may be a  problem when it does appear to be  working  with the others.   Then again I believe most drivers are supplied by the manufacturer or software developer for their product.  Sending a vector file to print .....hmmmm.     Does saving the Maptitude file in a Arc  or MI format and opening it in their programs,  does the file come across accurately?

Hope others  join in  with their comments.

Thanks Chris,

I partially agree with your assessment of the problem and believe that this is an issue specific to the PDF drivers; the problem manifests itself regardless of paper size selection and when a scale is placed to the paper the scale remains incorrect. However if I extend the margins manually, beyond the paper size, then my computed scale is corrected.

So it does appear to be an issue with how Maptitude functions with certain printer driver: I've noticed that this error not only occurs with the PDF drivers but with my plotter drivers (HPDesignjet 1055cm) as well. Interestingly enough, the page sizing appears to function correctly using standard printer drivers (HP Color LaserJet 4600PCL6 and HP Laserjet 8150PS). My father (I'm grilling friends and family too ;) thinks it might be one of those ADOBE undocumented errors, which I can't 100% rule out either. However, I can't absolve caliper completely because the problem doesn't exist using ArcGIS 9.0 or MapInfo 7.0 on the same system conditions.

Attached is a power point, which illustrates the problem I'm having.

I trust the margins on the paper are not causing the problem or if you print it on an 11x17 sheet you have the same results?
If you put a scale on the printout does that also appear incorrect?
If you print from Maptitude does the same problem appear or only when printing to (from) a .PDF?
When printing from the .PDF. it isn't set to fill the page or set to print as image?
Also I have seen printers that reduce the size of a print, similar to a fax machine,  to fit the image to the paper.

My bet is on that the .PDF isn't reproducing exactly, making the printout  a bit small.  On some of my conversions I seen Text disappear or spread across the whole page.

Hi all,

I'm having an on going issue with Maptitudes layout page sizing. The problem I'm noticing is that Maptitude doesn't size the paper size to the exact size specified. For example, let's say that I  require that all my maps be at a specific scale of 1:100,000 and that the reverse calculation for the compatible paper size is, 8.1 inches x 11.1 inches. Maptitude appears to consistently create a layout page just shy of this dimension.  Maptitude creates a page size of 8.05 inches by 11.05inches, which doesn't provide me with any confidence in my scale using Maptitude; actually it equates to an error of 416 plus feet, which is unacceptable even at 1:100,000.

Normally I use a precision of 100th of an inch in my paper sizing but truncated to something more measurable within Maptitude by using 10th of an inch instead. I'm using ADOBE PDF writer 5.0 but am able to repeat the error using cutePDF as well. Does anyone know if the folks at Caliper are aware of this or if I'm overlooking the obvious?
