Carol,
I have used Maptitude since, I believe 4.2,  and I don't think that tech support is to be used for teaching purposes.(although I could be wrong).  If you are using the program for  profit  I would suggest the extra support.  Otherwise  I have used the manual  and have been able to find answers to 90% of my questions.   9% are found using this group.   As with many software programs  ( spreadsheet, word processor)  it won't do it by itself.  The 60 second tutorials are great although I would like to see more of them,  maybe online.  Start at the beginning of the book  and work your way through.   Since my work has limited use for mapping  I find real world ideas from the news paper and try to create maps using their data just to keep refreshed in using the program.    Also you would be getting  newer census data and street maps with 4.7 which alone, using other programs , would cost more than Maptitude itself.

I also see you mentioned  Upgrade.....   If Caliper is listening ........  If I recall correctly the last announcement of such was 7/19/2004   15:34.....    Any word on the future releases?

Hi R.,
Thanks for the tip!  This is a hard question to answer because
everyone learns at a different speed, but do you think I will need a
year's worth of tech support?  It's about $100 extra beyond the cost
of the upgrade.  I think I get 3 months free so that might be enough.
I am an artist by training and I am naturally visual so I think I may
learn this fairly fast.  I didn't learn much about the first version
we bought.  My husband mostly used it.  I liked that you called this
version "robust and intuitive".  That's the first time I've heard
anyone describe a softwars as "robust".  :-)
