This gives you all streets segments that do not intersect the border. Call this INSIDE 2) Use select by condition to select all streets TOUCHING the tract, Call this set TOUCHING 3) Use Combine Selection to " Choose features in both" TOUCHING and INSIDE. Call this Set CROSSING 4) The sum of all your values in the INSIDE set plus one half of the sum of the CROSSING SET is a good approximation to what you are looking for. I need to overlay tracts over streets and I want to calculate strength length in order to derive at a "linear density measure." For instance, those streets that are completely within an area would be assigned to the tract that is overlaid so that the length of the street is included. But where streets border the area, I need to obtain a length ½ of what the length is as the other ½ would be assigned to the area adjacent. Thanks for any suggestions.
