Jeff, for the 50 maps, I have made a gisdk add-in which can help you. It wasn't tested to Mapt 6, but you can give a try.

It also allows saving a map image for each selection set of a layer. The image files can be saved as JPG, BMP or EMF. It is also available the option to save them as .MAP files. Each image file can have its scale adjusted to fit for each feature. It can be also chosen if the entire layer will be visible or just the feature being exported.
