TOP STORY - Adelphia will pay $715 million to settle an ongoing fraud 
investigation, the Justice Department announced this afternoon. The 
money will be put into a fund for those who lost money after the 
company's founding family allegedly looted the cable operator and used 
it as their personal "piggy bank."

At the Bell

SBC Communications said it added 504,000 DSL lines in the first 
quarter, taking its DSL customer count to 5.6 million. SBC said the 
effort marked its best-ever quarterly increase in DSL lines --- Qwest, 
which releases first quarter results next week, said investors can expect 
the company to report net income thanks to a gain of about $250 
million on the sale of its wireless assets to Verizon Wireless --- Shaw 
launched digital phone service in Edmonton.

The Week Ahead

Comcast will release first quarter results Thursday. Insight reports 1Q 
results the same day. In addition, the nation's satellite radio companies, 
XM and Sirius, report first quarter results Wednesday and Thursday, 
respectively. DirecTV's Spaceway 1 satellite, which will support the 
company's efforts to expand HDTV, is set for launch early Tuesday 
morning.
