TOP STORY -- A top executive at Comcast said the cable industry would
move toward adopting a networking technology that could significantly
increase the use of DVRs. The cable company's COO, Steve Burke, told
an investor conference that a trial of new technology recently
announced by rival operator Cablevision looked promising. The new
system that Cablevision is trying would allow subs to retrieve recorded
shows from the cable company's system, rather than from a hard drive
installed on a set-top cable box.

"As hurricanes, wars, floods and other disasters have rocked the world,
the need for reliable mobile voice and data, at any time in any place,
has pushed MSS (mobile satellite) services into the lime-light," the pub
says. "In 2005, for example, Globalstar saw its subscriber base jump by
40 percent to 195,000. Other MSS players have seen similar jumps
while revenues from their services have soared. In context of the tens
of millions of subscribers to DBS and cable, this hardly merits a second
glance. But bear with us: We're getting to the good part..." Read this
