Well, there are full non or not for profit corporations but there are also many association models that IMO would more likely fit the current situation. Looking at what is likely on the horizon I would not expect particularly large sums of money being involved, IMO most of an individuals contribution is going to have to be self funded, travel, lodging and the like. But there would be great use for a small pool of funds to augment these efforts. The types of monies involved I would think then would be attainable from a few target fund raising campaigns perhaps and that just requires the minimum legal framework for a checking account, managed by the group. Steve Shelton is a US attorney active in the mailing lists, he moved his office to a custom Base case management system it seems like 3-4 maybe more years ago. Given there seems to be some interest here I will send him a direct email and see if he could offer some advice on what other options would be available here. Also I do not envision a type of organization that is taking positions on issues of the day, so the question of hierarchy, just rings a little off note to me. That is my thinking on the subject at the moment at least.
